New Canaan resident Michael Handler is poised to take another major step forward in his bid for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s seat, as his campaign announced last month that it surpassed a key fundraising threshold.
Handler is Stamford’s chief financial officer, a post he has held since 2012, serving under a Republican and now a Democratic mayor.
Handler has been aggressive in "shining a spotlight on the financial mess he (Malloy) left behind as mayor of Stamford" and challenged Malloy to a debate on "the facts of our fiscal crisis."
Because of a major snowstorm on March 7, the final debate was postponed to April 18, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan.
The Connecticut Republican Party has held debates in different congressional districts.
New Canaan Republican Town Committee Chairman Patrick Donovan said: “New Canaan has such strong GOP membership, (so) we were chosen as the location for the fourth debate. This will be a great opportunity for New Canaan to play host for the rest of the state.”
